Zaragoza 2008

The Spanish city of Zaragoza organized the world exhibition 2008. Denmark was represented by a national pavilion and the exhibition ”Circles in the water”.

Denmark participated with a national pavilion at EXPO Zaragoza 2008. On 14 June 2007, Spectrum Architects were elected winners of the project competition of designing the Danish pavilion in Zaragoza with their design concept “Circles in the water”. The overall theme of the world exhibition was “Water and sustainable development”, and in the pavilion, the visitors could experience Danish leading-edge competences within the areas of water, wind and biomass.

5.5 million visitors
EXPO Zaragoza 2008 opened on 14 June and closed on 14 September, having been visited by more than 5.5 million people. The exhibition area covered an area of 25 hectares, and more than 100 countries had signed up to participate. Zaragoza is the capital of the Spanish province of Aragon and is accessible by high-speed train from both Madrid and Barcelona in about one and a half hours.

Spain is an important trading partner
Spain is one of Denmark’s important trading partners and a country with great commercial potential for Danish trade and industry. Experience from former world exhibitions shows that EXPO in the shape of infotainment (a mixture of culture and business) strengthens the image of Denmark, opens up new markets and creates useful networks.

National Day
On 2 July, Denmark organised a National Day which was a theme event of Danish cultural features. The media highlighted Denmark Day, and the partners took the opportunity of strengthening their ties with selected customers.
