Pavilion from 2008 wins important award
In early October this year the Danish EXPO 2008 pavilion was awarded a prestigious prize for its architecture.
The prize, 'Fernando García Mercadal', is Spanish and named after a famous Spanish architect. The jury reported that 63 works of superior quality had been submitted for the competition, and that, out of the 13 nominees shortlisted, five winners had been found. The Danish pavilion, designed by Spectrum Architects and Diego-Olalla, Sociedad de Arquitectura, won in the category of interior architecture. Francisco Pérez Arbués, dean of C.O.A.A.(El Colegio Oficial de Arquitectos de Aregón), headed the jury, which said that the Danish pavilion won because of its 'rich and diverse generation of exhibition spaces with simple resources'. EXPO Zaragoza 2008 opened in June and closed in September, after having been visited by more than 5.5 million people.
