The Danish pavilion

11.11.2008

The Danish pavilion houses the exhibition “Círculos de Agua” – an exhibition of Danish technologies that may have started out small but have the potential to create global change. “Círculos de Agua” – or “Circles in the Water” – is about sustainable living and long-lasting solutions. The underlying message is that everything we do spreads like ripples through water.

Expo 2008, danske pavillon, tværsnit

The title “Circles in the water” represents the multidimensional experience of the Danish pavilion at Expo Zaragoza 2008. The design and concept of the pavilion present the high level of both the Danish innovating industries and the modern Danish culture.

The space of the pavilion has been designed to take its colour from nature and the weather, just as the Danish landscape does. Changing lights regulate the atmosphere in the pavilion where fine overcast nuances are replaced by glimpses of the sun. The space changes mood during the day and invites you to stop by more than once to see the many sides to Denmark. Two visits will be two very different experiences.

Expo døgn

The pavilion space consists of five exhibition cylinders hanging down from the ceiling and they are thought to be an experience of the Danish nature. Step into a cylinder and you will step directly into Denmark and feel the power of nature. In one cylinder you will find yourself flying over the Danish landscape and experience what it is like to be blown away by the enormous powers of the wind. In another, you will find yourself in the midst of a rainbow and feel the endless possibilities of daylight to generate both energy and quality. You can also experience how it would be like to be as small as a molecule or have a personal encounter with the effects of global warming.

Five Cylinders – Five Exhibition Themes
When entering the pavilion, you find yourself enclosed by a fresh and cool Nordic atmosphere that will lead your thoughts to a relaxed state of mind. Inside, you can take a walk around the exhibition and enter the five cylinders hanging down from the ceiling.

The exhibition cylinders are each dedicated to a natural resource. Inside the cylinders you can feel the power of nature, on the outside you can learn about technologies and sustainable solutions implemented in Denmark and worldwide by Danish companies and institutions.

You enter the cylinders by bowing your head slightly down to get inside of them. Once inside, you get to feel the experience at close hand.

Expo plantegning

The Wind Cylinder tells the story of how a nation of only 5 million inhabitants has become the world’s leading supplier of wind power technologies. You can feel the rush of wind in your hair, like standing in a field of windmills and get amazed by the enormous windmill wings in action.

The Water Cylinder focuses on how you can plan cities that can cope with rising water levels and extreme climate conditions of the future. Stepping inside the cylinder you’ll find yourself in a blue, cold and almost sacred room. Above your head a huge icicle is slowly melting away reminding us all of the global climate changes.

The Daylight Cylinder shows how building with natural light can make sustainability and lifestyle meet. Experience the Northern Lights, rainbows and light dispersed in prisms or refracted in water spray and dew.

The Biomass Cylinder tells of the ethical bio fuels of the future produced from harvest waste. Stepping inside the cylinder you are brought along a kaleidoscopic journey experiencing the biological processes as if you were inside a microscope.

Expo Café

The Restaurant & Shop Cylinder is dedicated to human creativity as the indispensable resource for innovation and development. Here you find the latest in Danish Design and crafts as well as the pavilion’s restaurant, where you can enjoy a lunch or dinner in beautiful surroundings.
