DTU is a self-governing, nationwide university that covers the engineering disciplines and educates engineers at the Bachelor, Master and PhD levels.
DTU’s mission is to contribute to value creation in society on a sustainable foundation: through collaboration on R&D activities with private and public sector enterprises; through applications for patents and establishment of new enterprises and through the University’s education of Master’s students and young, new researchers.
DTU has approximately 2,300 researchers, 6,000 students, 700 PhD students and admits 400 international students a year to English-taught programmes. DTU has an annual turnover of DKK 3.3 billion.
Research & Innovation
The University’s research activities in disciplines such as biotechnology and food technology, energy and environmental technology, IT and communications technology, materials technology and nanotechnology, and architectural engineering are among the most cited in the world, and the research is carried out in 20 specialised departments and a number of research centres at campuses in Lyngby, Risø, Århus, Silkeborg and Hirtshals.
DTU comprises a coherent innovation system that ranges from research, teaching and public-sector consultancy to patents and licensing, industrial collaboration and science park activities. DTU creates on average one new enterprise a month, patents one new idea a week and concludes agreements concerning knowledge transfer every day of the year.
