Construction works of the Danish EXPO pavilion in Shanghai have been officially started. On Friday May 15, the groundbreaking ceremony took place, and the caterpillar machines are now on their way.

The Chinese artist Ai Weiwei (known for the Bird's Nest from the Olympic Games in Beijing 2008) has been appointed to create the installation, which will replace the Little Mermaid at Langelinie in Copenhagen. The two artworks will be exchanged for six months, while The Little Mermaid is part of the Danish pavilion at the World EXPO 2010 Shanghai.
