Since 2000 Realdania has supported and started various philanthropic projects to improve the quality of life through the built environment. Realdania focuses on life that is lived in and between buildings and wants to create qualities and values for the benefit of people throughout Denmark.
Realdania is involved in projects within three focus areas: qualities of the cities, the innovation and efficiency in building and construction, and the built heritage. Sustainability is a key element, regardless of whether it is a question of development of the cities, of construction work or of the heritage of the building.
To Realdania sustainability is more than just the environment. Sustainability is also about lifestyle and social issues. For instance, it is of great importance whether a city is designed and built so that it encourages its citizens to be healthy and exercise. Realdania's commitment to creating life quality for everyone through the built environment is thus very close to EXPO 2010's motto: "Better City, Better Life".
