The world exhibitions are considered the Olympic Games of economics, science, and technology – with emphasis on intercultural dialogue, the strengthening of international relations and the exchange of solutions to global problems. In 2008, a smaller-scale world exhibition was held in Zaragoza,Spain.

The world exhibition in Shanghai bids fair to become the greatest ever. More than 200 nations will participate, and 70 million people are expected to visit EXPO during the six exhibition months. The overall theme for the World EXPO 2010 Shanghai is “Better City, Better Life”, and it is the first time that a world exhibition puts focus on the development of cities.

About Denmark’s EXPO participation
With a budget of DKK 150 million, the participation in the Shanghai world exhibition will be Denmark’s largest EXPO project so far. The Ministry of Economic and Business Affairs invests DKK 75 million, while Realdania, as the major private contributor, invests DKK 50 million.

A.P. Moller - Maersk, GRUNDFOS, Vestas Wind Systems and The Danish Agricultural Council (Arla Foods, Kopenhagen Fur and Carlsberg) contribute a total of DKK 20 million, while the New Carlsberg Foundation has undertaken to embellish the pavilion.
