BIE Secretary General on flying visit to Copenhagen

Vicente Gonzalez Loscertales, Secretary General of BIE, the EXPO organising bureau, spent a cold February day in Copenhagen where he was introduced to the Danish plans of a possible bid for EXPO 2020. The Secretary General was given a thorough introduction to the Danish EXPO 2010 Shanghai project, and he was duly impressed.

It has been well known for a while that Denmark and the City of Copenhagen are considering bidding for the world exhibition in 2020 and on 16 February, Vicente Gonzalez Loscertales, Secretary General of the BIE (Bureau International des Expositions) had been invited to the Danish capital to learn more about how the Danes will meet this formidable challenge.

After visits to Copenhagen Lord Mayor Ritt Bjerregaard and the future EXPO area in the former industrial harbour Nordhavnen, situated only a few kilometres from the City Hall, to discuss the possible EXPO 2020 bid, Mr Loscertales had meetings with the EXPO Secretariat of the Danish Enterprise and Construction Authority about Denmark’s EXPO 2010 project.

LoscertalesDue to the massive media interest concerning the Little Mermaid’s temporary change of address from Copenhagen to Shanghai, Mr. Loscertales already knew about the Danish EXPO 2010 Shanghai project. However, the EXPO Secretariat took the opportunity to give a thorough presentation of both the Danish pavilion and the exhibition Welfairytales, and Mr. Loscertales was pleased with what he saw.

“I am impressed with the Danish pavilion which undoubtedly is among the pavilions that match the overall EXPO theme the best. The project is very innovative and follows the brilliant Danish EXPO traditions for design and architecture,” according to Mr. Loscertales.

In 2011, the BIE will announce which city will organise EXPO 2020.
