About EXPO

Visit a world exhibition and experience the fantastic variety of the world. Here you will have the opportunity to learn about all the participating countries by visiting their exhibitions and restaurants, as well as meeting their representatives. In addition, you will gain knowledge of the cultural and culinary capacity of the host country every day

Expo

Today’s world exhibitions – EXPOs – have gone through a process of modernisation during the last decade and have now become important meeting places focusing on intercultural dialogue and the exchange of solutions to global issues. They are also a useful tool for branding cities, regions, and countries.

EXPO is infotainment
Just like the Olympic Games and the world football championship, EXPO is organised by a host city/ host country and attracts the same number of participating countries and visitors, on average, as other mega-events. But EXPO is not only good entertainment; it is actually infotainment, and the major attractions are the national pavilions.

Overall theme
Every EXPO is organised with an overall theme to be created by the host country. The participating countries accommodate the theme through exhibitions in their national pavilions. In general, this offers an opportunity to present the strongholds of modern Denmark in the framework of the theme, but in a broad perspective of culture, science, business, etc.

National Day
Beyond this, each country hosts a National Day, which is a country-specific theme day where  visitors are invited to celebrate the country by attending a range of special cultural features.

New markets and networks
By participating, Denmark contributes in a serious and entertaining way to the debate of the EXPO theme, at the same time strengthening our position as an attractive and innovative nation. Experience from former world exhibitions shows that an infotainment EXPO strengthens the image of Denmark, opens up new markets and creates useful networks.

EXPO 2010 Shanghai
World exhibitions are held every five years. Aichi in Japan organised one in 2005, and the next universal EXPO is to be held in Shanghai, China, in 2010.

At a general meeting on 31 March, BIE – the International Exhibitions Bureau – decided that the next universal world exhibition in 2015 will be held in Milan, Italy.

Smaller-scale world exhibitions are held sometime during the five year interval between two universal EXPOs. EXPO Zaragoza 2008, which was held in Zaragoza, Spain, from 14 June till 14 September 2008 was such an exhibition.

Between the universal world exhibitions in Shanghai and Milan, Yeosu in South Korea will host a smaller-scale world exhibition in 2012.
